Dammit Elfwood...

X3 Wolverine
...who forgot to feed Sirius Black!?

Sad news on the roleplaying front, the big game hasn't been canceled, but Kim and Dean made some point on Saturday to everyone about putting it off and focusing on smaller groups for now. Or something. I started zoning out when Dean, Kim, and Mrs. Lewis were discussing Whose Game Is It Anyway. It kind of reminded me of when the X-Men split up into the Blue and Gold teams in the 90s and one was totally cooler than the others (hint: the one with Wolverine on it!).
X-Men Blue (4th Ed.)
"Stop doing that weird talky-thing. I wanna roll dice!"
X-Men Gray-Brown (3.5)
"I'll show you to not psychically know to be a cleric and live vicariously through me in your first game!"
"Can I be a lich at first level if I have max ranks in knowledge arcana?"
  • Zakk
  • Jubilee Tersha
  • Will
  • Cricket
  • Chris
  • Sharpe
  • Dean
  • Kim
  • Josh
  • Sean (invited, but not official)
  • Friends of Josh

I realize this isn't the official splitting up of the gang and that in many ways having smaller groups would actually be beneficial, but I still find the concept disheartening. I enjoy playing Skeigh, and it was nice to have a single character and really try to work out his quirks and mindset instead of writing sheet after sheet of characters without ever really feeling it. Also, watching it grow from one person's masturbatory campaign to a reasonably equal group was actually pretty rewarding. Speaking of which, Dean has a tendency to ask what he can do, and sometimes it means "...to help?" and other times it means "...to make this more about me?". Part of me thinks his desire to place more focus on the more Josh-oriented game is the latter, as he can probably be Grand Poobah again there. Also, my experiences with Zakk (and by extension Tersha) behind the driver's wheel leave me afraid their hamhandedness is going to result in 4E falling onto the "Actually, it's a good game. We just didn't follow through with it." pile.

When we move into the new house, I think I'm going to buy a nice television and an X-Box 360. I learned a decent amount about the matter today at Best Buy, and then I learned that Matt's been looking into one of his own as well. Right now, this television has caught my eye. As someone who plays video games, LCD is better than Plasma because, despite improvements in recent years, Plasma has a tendency to leave a "burn in" image if there's something that's constantly onscreen like a health bar in a video game.

...but I thought it was his turn to feed the dog prisoner....

Maybe we should pick up Exalted again at some point - I kind of like the whole different set of rules thing, and Exalted certainly seems the way to go over their Vampire game (which I looked at because my sister's very into Twilight and vampires in general, and which I found to be rather creepy - not that I wasn't expecting that to a degree)

Haha, I think I went from not enough systems to too many. Of all things, I'd love to run a short GURPS game for that group. Some people could benefit from point-buy over a class system. Unfortunately, the combat seemed slow, and slower fights are the last thing we need.

I don't know if it's appropriate for someone her age, but I hear that the older Vampire system completely owns the newer one. Cricket has one of the books and was telling me a good deal about it once. Of course, the vampire(s) I'd try to be would probably make the White Wolf people want to take the books away from me.

You can never have too many systems; the more you have the easier it is to find which one you want to play. Or debate endlessly over which one to play - shoot, maybe you can have too many systems.

She's in ninth grade, so there's a lot of flexibility in deciding what's age appropriate or not, especially with reading material (piercings and tattoos on the other hand...)still, I'm not sure the Masquerade vampires are the same sort as those in the Twilight series.

And as far as White Wolf taking away the books? They'd probably end up ordering a restraining order if they knew which media-inspired vampire I'm most likely to attempt creating...

LMAO! I think I need to change my vampire, and then we need to play this game. Bonus points if we play it using the White Wolf rules.

LOL! Triple bonus points for finding a game where the other players are taking the system seriously and convincing them to let us join with these characters.

I can see this now:
"My Tzimisce fleshwarper skulks through the shadows trying to stay hidden."

"One! One vampire! Two! Two vampires! Three! Three vampires! Four! Four vampires! Ha ha ha!" *lightning bolt*

"What does the vampire in front of me look like?"

"He's purple with a felt triangle for a nose, pointed batlike ears, and a monocle. Also he's standing next to a vampire rabbit."

"Yeah, there's nothing in my power I can do to make him look any weirder."
